1.1 A boy from Lemberg
Where and when Stanisław Ulam was born, and who his family was.
Stanisław Ulam was born on 13 April 1909 in Lemberg (in Polish, Lwów), then in the Austrian province of Galicia. Today it is Lviv, in Ukraine [1, 2, 3]. The course writes Lwów for the city of Ulam's time and Lviv for the city today.
His father was Józef Ulam (1879 to 1941), a lawyer, and his mother Hania Auerbach (1887 to 1938), known as Anna. He had a sister, Stefania, born in 1912, and a brother, Adam, born on 8 April 1922 [1].
